The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center presents the Avalon String Quartet, one of the country's leading string ensembles, in a special six-concert series of Beethoven's string quartets. Held at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.
Composers sometimes talk of different keys or modes having distinct feelings - D Minor is tragic, C Major is grand. In this fourth program of the series, "Serendipitous Harmony", three works in closely related tonalities are brought together in the same way one might study an artist's diverse treatments of a single theme (i.e. Picasso's use of the guitar or Frank Lloyd Wright's fascination with Japanese woodblock prints).
Remaining concert dates: Program 5 on 6/1, Program 6 TBA
After residencies at Juilliard School and Indiana University, the Avalon String Quartet is now in residence at Northern Illinois University.
Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for students. Visit www.mendelssohnpac.org or call 815-964-9713.
