Earth Day at RVC Start Date: Apr. 21, 2012 Time: 11:00 AM

Rock Valley College & Four Rivers Environmental Coalition present Earth Day 2012 at Rock Valley College's Physical Education Center on the RVC main campus. This year's theme is Earth Matters and we'll be paying homage to the wonders of nature and honoring the planet by preserving the environment and its natural resources. Highlights will include: -A special welcome with remarks from Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey is scheduled to open the event at 11:00 a.m. -Tim Gruner from Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford will be the keynote speaker and his presentation is entitled: Patterns in Nature that Inspire Japanese Gardens and the Connection between Garden and Architecture -Brad Holcomb from the City of Rockford will discuss the city's green efforts. -Paper Recovery will be on hand from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to provide shredding services. Bring your stack of documents for shredding and let Paper Recovery take care of it for you! -Bring old cell phones and batteries in and drop them off for recycling. -Saavedra Gehlhausen Architects will present on the chilled beam and geothermal technologies implemented in the design of Rock Valley College's Jacobs Center for Science and Math. -A program on Coastal Raptors will be presented. -Meghan Bowe will do a Gardening Talk. -Jamie Johannsen will present a program Hidden Gems and Native Plants. -Nancy Ballantine from Live Roof will present on Green Roofs. -View new and innovative products from numerous exhibitors and vendors.
