The Rock Valley Children’s Choir, in residence at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center in Rockford, will present their 11th Annual “Holiday and Holy Days” Concert, titled “On the Last Month of the Year” on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 7:00 pm. The performance will take place in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church located at 406 North Main Street in downtown Rockford. The church was recently purchased by the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. Admission is $10 per person with children under the age of 10 admitted free of charge. The beautiful voices of all four Rock Valley Children’s Choir ensembles will blend in harmony as they sing songs that have relevance to specific dates in December, the last month of the year. The Rock Valley Children's Choir (RVCC), directed by Leah Baskin, is a performing and educational choral organization for youth in the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area. The RVCC consists of four separate choruses encompassing grades one through twelve: Do-Re-Mi Singers - grade 1 - 3 Music Makers Chorus - grade 4 - 8 Crescendo Choir - grade 6 - 8 (audition-based choir) Encore! - grade 9 - 12 The RVCC operates during the fall and spring semesters, on the same academic calendar as most local public schools. Each chorus rehearses once a week and participates in two concerts per semester, with opportunities for additional performances for the three older choirs. In 2006, the RVCC formed a partnership with the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC). In Fall 2012, the RVCC became the anchor group for the new Mendelssohn Music and Movement Education Center, located downstairs in the MPAC building. Being a part of the downtown cultural corridor gives RVCC exciting new opportunities to grow and mature as musicians. Since 1884, the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center has been a source of musical leadership and excellence for the residents of northern Illinois. Mendelssohn PAC, a non-profit organization located at 415 North Church Street in Rockford, serves the community with a wide range of concerts, youth music programs and performing ensembles for all ages. Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is the home of the Rock Valley Children’s Choir, the Mendelssohn Chorale and Kantorei, The Boy Singers of Rockford. Charlotte’s Web is now a division of Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. To purchase tickets to the Rock Valley Children’s Choir, please call 815-964-9713. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door the evening of the concert.
